Before the application of
glass coatings, ensure that the glass is clean.
Wash the glass surface using a cloth and alcohol
based solution. |
| • |
When mixing components, add the curing agent
and adhesion promoter into the glass coating separately.
Adding both the components at the same time causes
lumps to form which are difficult to dissolve. |
| • |
Filter material through 280 micron cone
filters by spraying. Note that filtering material
is of most importance when spraying tinted semi-transparent
finishes, as the slightest imperfection is noticeable. |
| • |
When spraying, the glass panels must be in a
horizontal position. |
| • |
The glass coating range can only be
applied onto flat glass panels. |
| • |
When spraying, apply 3-4 cross-coats. The number
of coats needed, will vary depending on the opacity
of individual colours. |
| • |
The metallic colour range has good opacity
and may only require two cross-coats. |
| • |
For semi-transparent finishes, one cross coat
may be sufficient if a very light subtle tint
is required. |
| • |
Always apply the material to the reverse
side of the glass panel. |
| • |
After application, if required, apply a damp
cloth to remove the excess from the edge of the
glass panel. |
| • |
Overspray on the front side of the glass
panel can be a problem. |
| • |
Do not leave overnight to remove the overspray
as after 4-6 hours, it becomes difficult to remove. |
| • |
Remove overspray from the glass coating
using a cloth and acetone (NT2010). |
| • |
Once the glass coating has been applied and
is dry, (approximately 1-2 hours), another coat
can not be applied, as this will result in the
previous coat pealing away from the glass itself
(de-lamination). |
| • |
If the glass coating has been applied
and needs recoating (ie contamination), this must
be removed as soon as possible or within 24hours. |
| • |
To remove – wet coated glass with water
and leave for between 45-60 minutes before removing. |
| • |
When drying coated glass panels, leave
to dry on plain white boards for the best results.
(This mainly applies to semi-transparent finishes). |
| • |
Avoid leaving the glass panels to dry on bars
of drying racks as this can leave shadows to appear
which are noticeable once the coating is dry. |
| • |
Always be aware that the final colour
is influenced by the actual colour of the glass. |
