'Anti-Graffiti' Polyester Range

Introduction

Recommended for use in situations where resistance to staining and high surface hardness is required.

Becker Powder Coatings' "Anti-Graffiti" products are specifically designed to withstand "Dry-Wipe" marker pens and find applications in other areas where standard coatings fail to meet anti-stain criteria. Colour Our standard colour is white: a limited range of colours is available on request. Gloss These products are full gloss i.e. above 85 units, measured @ 60°

Film Properties

Meets the following criteria:

Mandrel bend: BS3900 E1 Pass 13mm
Scratch: BS3900 E2 In excess of 4kg
Impact: BS3900 E3 Pass 50 in lbs.
Adhesion: BS3900 E6 No detachment
Humidity: BS3900 F2 Pass 1000 hrs
Salt Fog: ASTM B117 Max. 2mm creep @ 500 hrs
"Magic Marker" No staining: 24 hrs

* Substrate used in obtaining performance data was 20-gauge mild steel pre-treated using a medium weight zinc phosphate.

Specific Gravity

(calculated) 1.6.

Coverage

11 – 14 sq.m/kg @ 50 microns (100% utilisation assumed), depending on colour and gloss.

Film Thickness

Approx. 12 sq. m/kg @ 50 microns (100% utilisation assumed). Film Thickness Recommended 60-80 microns for optimum cover of a variety of workpieces, and to maintain the optimum surface hardness.

Curing Conditions

Recommended 200°C/10 mins peak object temperature. Good oven ventilation is recommended.

Storage and Handling

Store in dry, cool conditions, preferably below 25°C. Shelf life under these conditions will be approx. 12 months. For full information on handling this product type, refer to individual Safety Data Sheet, and the ‘Code of Safe Practice' issued by the British Coatings Federation.

Pre-treatment

Conversion coating is recommended. The metal must be thoroughly degreased with alkaline or acid cleaner. The conversion coating shall be applied by treatment with a solution of chromate or chromate/phosphate ions as active ingredients, for aluminium substrates, or zinc or iron phosphate for ferrous substrates.

Coating weights would be in the order of 0.2-2.0 grams/m2 for yellow brown chromate coatings and 0.7-1.2 grams/m2 for green coatings.

Our Technical Service department will be pleased to offer further advice on this subject if required.

Application Guidelines

Beckers Powder Coatings are suitable for use with all electrostatic powder spraying equipment. Voltages of 30-100 kV should be applied. The powder is sprayed onto earthed metallic substrates and an even layer of powder is deposited. When subjected to the correct temperature, the powder melts and flows to form a continuous film before curing.
