Architectural Polyester Range

Introduction

Recommended for use in exterior situations where excellent resistance to weathering is required, e.g. architectural applications such as aluminium window frames, cladding etc. These products may also be used where high resistance to yellowing at elevated temperatures are specified, though our standard polyester range may be adequate. Becker Powder Coatings' attention to particle size control and formulation ensures optimum transfer efficiency. 'Tribostatic' grades are available on request.

Specific Gravity

1.4 – 1.7 depending on colour, gloss, and other properties.

Coverage

9-12 sq.m/kg @ 50 microns (100% utilisation assumed, depending on colour and gloss).

Film Thickness

Recommended 60-80 microns for most applications.

Curing Conditions

Standard Bake type: including Matt finishes 200°C/10 mins object temperature.

Storage and Handling

Store in dry, cool conditions, preferably below 25°C. Shelf life under these conditions will be approx. 12 months. For full information on handling this product type, refer to individual Safety Data Sheet, and the ‘Code of Safe Practice' issued by the British Coatings Federation.

Pre-treatment

Conversion coating is essential in all cases. The metal must be thoroughly degreased with alkaline or acid cleaner. The conversion coating shall be applied by treatment with a solution of chromate or chromate/phosphate ions as active ingredients, as specified in BS6496.

Coating weights would be in the order of 0.2-2.0 grams/m2 for yellow brown coatings and 0.7-1.2 grams/m2 for green coatings.

Our technical service department will be pleased to offer further advice on this subject if required.

Application Guidelines

Becker Powder Coatings' Architectural Polyesters are suitable for use with all electrostatic powder spraying equipment. Voltages of 30-100 kV should be applied. The powder is sprayed onto earthed metallic substrates and an even layer of powder is deposited. When subjected to the correct temperature, the powder melts and flows to form a continuous film before curing.
